Your goal is straightforward: cross as many platforms as possible without falling. You control a stickman standing on a platform. In front of you is a gap, and on the other side is the next platform.
By holding down your click or tap, a stick grows vertically from your stickman's position. When you release, the stick falls forward like a bridge. If it's long enough to reach the next platform (but not so long that it overshoots), your stickman walks across and you score a point.
If the stick is too short, it doesn't reach and you plummet. If it's too long, it extends past the far edge and your stickman walks off the end. Either way, the game ends.
Every successful crossing earns you 1 point. Some versions feature a small bonus zone in the centre of each platform — landing the stick precisely on that zone awards 2 points instead of 1. This rewards precision and adds an extra layer of risk-vs-reward.
The stick grows at a constant speed. This means time = length. Learning to feel how long a one-second hold produces versus a two-second hold is key to building muscle memory.
Platforms differ in width and distance from each other. Narrow platforms are harder to land on, while wide ones are more forgiving. The randomisation keeps every run fresh.
Once you release, the stick tips forward with a consistent animation. Your stickman begins walking immediately. There's no mid-air correction — once the stick falls, your fate is sealed.

Keep your eyes on the gap between platforms rather than the growing stick. Your peripheral vision will naturally help you judge the right length.
Develop a mental count. "One Mississippi, two Mississippi…" works surprisingly well for building a sense of hold duration.
If you're unsure, hold a tiny bit longer. A stick that overshoots slightly still has a chance of landing on a wider platform — a short stick has zero chance.
Losing breaks your rhythm. Take a breath before your next run. Panic-tapping leads to a cascade of failures.
Top players develop an internal rhythm. Instead of visually measuring each gap, they build a tempo — a "beat" for short gaps and a longer beat for wide ones. This shift from visual estimation to rhythmic intuition dramatically increases speed and consistency.
Learn to identify the exact pixel where a platform ends. The edge of each platform has a subtle visual marker. Training your eye to snap to this point lets you calculate stick length with surgical precision.
If your version has a centre bonus zone, aim for it deliberately. The extra point per crossing compounds quickly and separates average players from leaderboard-toppers. It requires much tighter timing, but the payoff is worth the risk on wider platforms.
Challenge yourself to score 20 points in the shortest time possible. Speed runs force you to trust your instincts and reduce hesitation — two skills that translate directly into higher scores in normal play.
Stick Jump runs in real-time, but since the stick only grows while you hold, you can take as long as you want before each jump. There's no timer rushing you between platforms.
Community leaderboards vary, but experienced players regularly report scores above 50. The all-time community best is rumoured to be over 120 consecutive crossings.
Not in the main game — it's fully random. However, playing repeatedly naturally exposes you to every gap size. Consistency comes from volume of play.
